The Indian version of Twitter has found its way into the minds of Indian users recently. The application is named ‘Tooter’ and has gained a lot of popularity because of its tagline as being a Swadeshi social network, that is ‘Made in India’. Tooter means a person who plays a pipe or a horn.
But here, it means ‘Swadeshi Aandolan 2.0’. The app has quite a similar interface as that of Twitter, including the same color scheme of white and blue over the application page.
Tooter became live in the month of June-July but recently gained fame on Twitter due to the Government’s increased activity for the ‘Made in India’ campaign. It was also compared to the American app “Parler” and referred to as ‘Indian Parler’ by various users.
For the people who are unaware of the app, Parler is an American micro-blogging website launched in the year 2018, containing a prominent userbase of Trump’s supporters, American Conservatives, Conspiracy Theorists, Anti-Semitists, and more. These groups were formed, because of the notion that platforms like Facebook or Twitter were biased towards them and obstructed their right to free speech.

It reads, “We believe that India should have its own Swadeshi social network. Without one we are just a digital colony of the American Twitter India company, no different than what we were under the British East India company. Tooter is our Swadeshi Andolan 2.0. Join us in this Andolan. Join us!”
When you create your account over the app, it will automatically follow three profiles, namely R Vaidyanathan, Nanda and a verified handle named NewsThe app has some names of very important people of the country, including that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani, Virat Kohli, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Kiran Bedi, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Abhishek Bachchan, and more.
