The Indian version of Twitter has found its way into the minds of Indian users recently. The application is named ‘Tooter’ and has gained a lot of popularity because of its tagline as being a Swadeshi social network, that is ‘Made in India’. Tooter means a person who plays a pipe or a horn.

But here, it means ‘Swadeshi Aandolan 2.0’. The app has quite a similar interface as that of Twitter, including the same color scheme of white and blue over the application page.

Tooter became live in the month of June-July but recently gained fame on Twitter due to the Government’s increased activity for the ‘Made in India’ campaign. It was also compared to the American app “Parler” and referred to as ‘Indian Parler’ by various users.
For the people who are unaware of the app, Parler is an American micro-blogging website launched in the year 2018, containing a prominent userbase of Trump’s supporters, American Conservatives, Conspiracy Theorists, Anti-Semitists, and more. These groups were formed, because of the notion that platforms like Facebook or Twitter were biased towards them and obstructed their right to free speech.

Major Features of the Application Tooter

Tooter has almost the same interface as that of Twitter, meaning the user can create their accounts and browse the app in the same way.
It can be found on Google Play Store as of now, as there is no access for the iOS users to date.

On one hand, where posts on Twitter are called Tweets, on Tooter, they are Toots, continuing the legacy of the former app. One major difference could be seen in the logo of both apps, where Twitter has a blue colored bird, Tooter has a blue colored Conch Shell.

If you read the ‘About Us’ section of the app, you will find the actual purpose of this application.
It reads, “We believe that India should have its own Swadeshi social network. Without one we are just a digital colony of the American Twitter India company, no different than what we were under the British East India company. Tooter is our Swadeshi Andolan 2.0. Join us in this Andolan. Join us!”

When you create your account over the app, it will automatically follow three profiles, namely R Vaidyanathan, Nanda and a verified handle named NewsThe app has some names of very important people of the country, including that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani, Virat Kohli, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh,  Home Minister Amit Shah, Kiran Bedi, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Abhishek Bachchan, and more.
All of them have verified accounts on the app, but none of them have verified this information anywhere until now.

In the spirit of Made in India, we have seen a huge change in the mindset of people, and some results include the Indian version of PUBG, called FAU-G, the Indian version of Tik Tok ‘Mitron’, and now we are seeing Tooter.
Don’t forget to try some of these versions of different applications and witness the work of some superb Indian developers.

After PUBG got banned, the users in India were introduced to the Indian version of the “Made in India” version called FAU-G. Want to know more about FAU-G read here.
